The last couple of days...

After +30 hours of
being in airports
and sleeping at an airport
and being on airplanes
I am, at last, back
in Tokyo.

Thank you from me
to Chiang Mai and
all the beautiful people
and time I have spent,
this is my last post
on Chiang Mai.

kao soi.
Yum yum.
It used to upset my stomach.
(It is pretty spicy)

Not anymore, though.
My stomach is
tough like a soldier now.
(I think)

The first temple
I entered in
Chiang Mai.

I always loved the
peacock
ornament on it.

Beautiful sunset.

Isn't the box
too big
for how little
chocolate I get??

Our sweet little
Gina.

Baby Chihuahuas
trying to open a bag
of dog food
on a pile of
dog food.

A hotel we stayed
during the last
few nights.

CHIANG MAI GATE HOTEL

I really recommend
this place.

The location is nice,
 very close to
the South Market
which is one of the
liveliest markets
in Chiang Mai.

People are
fun and kind too.

Banana trees outside
the window.

Oasis spa

A reward for correcting
and updating a map
of Chiang Mai.

We had Lanna course.

Thai massage
+
hot compress
+
oil massage

total of 2 hours.
It was a great treat before
the long journey.

a huge bowl
of tofu
at our favorite
pad-thai store.

a view from
our favorite
curry puff shop.

I don't know
how to describe
my feeling right now.

Weird to think
that I am back.

I am back
to a place
I grew up
but that is not to say
that I am back
to the place
where I used to stand.

It's a weird feeling.

Keep on moving,
take a step forward, me.

The LIST

Here comes the
BOOK LIST!
(10/01/09-6/17/10)

This is a book
I read when I feel
lost or sad.
Also one of the best
books to read
when traveling.

2.Bad Blood
Lorna Sage

3.Sex Slaves
(Just so you know,
it is a book that talks
about the human trafficking
in SE Asia.
To be honest, I was disappointed in
how narrow-minded
the author was.
And some of the things
she wrote were
just wrong.....
Though, I also have to say、
There were things I didn't know
and were very interesting
and good to know.)

タイ土産だけど、
あまりの可愛さに、
15匹買っちゃったよ。
先着、15名サマに♪

I couldn't resist
these cutie-pies.

The photo was taken
after I bought the first 9

to the store
again today and
got trapped by their
smiles.

Now I have 15 elephants.

A bundle of papers.

One of the consequences
of having much time
for yourself

AND

not being able
to read or understand
the country's
native tongue
was that
it made me want
to read.

For a while,
when we settled down in
Chiang Mai
I had this
fear that my brain
was going to lose
its ability to
understand things
through reading.

So basically
I started to read
read and read
so that
I could get rid of that fear.

Some nice people
who were coming to
Chiang Mai
from Japan
were so kind that
they brought me books.

Oh boy,
how nice is that?

...When you usually want
to have less stuff
in your luggage,
some people were
willing to have
10 extra books
in their luggage
just to bring them to a girl
whom they didn't even know.

It was very
touching
and it made me want to
do the same
for those who
are craving
stories and knowledge
on papers.

So most of the books
they brought for me
were books
that I wouldn't have read

 otherwise.

It was great.
 I never thought
I would get into
'hard-boiled' stories about
detectives
and bodyguards.

I think
I am more open minded
about what I read now.
I read serious thing,
I read about history,
I read about guys who fight
against the bads,
and I read love stories
etc etc...

Those people
that I probably wouldn't
meet again
opened new doors for me.

...and
books itself
also
opened new doors
for me as well.

This entry is getting long
so I will list
the name of books
I read
on the next entry.

Oh,
and don't laugh!
I know there are people
out there
who can read
so much more
in shorter time.

Kaleidoscope

Last night,
I went inside
a mini mart
by a gas station.
It smelled
just like
the minimart
in the States.

The mixture of
cardboard,
candy bars,
and plastic packages,
dust.

I guess
I have been missing
the States
more than I thought.

Many things
I do, I see, and I hear
are
starting to be
my
'one last time.'

...but then,
the truth is,

whether
I walk the same street
over and over
every single day,
and say
that is going to
continue
for the next 10 years,

each single time
I walk
on that same street
is, in fact my

one last time.

leaving one place
lets
me realize
that
every day is
just like

a kaleidoscope.
